Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen
In 1991, Dutch entrepreneur Jaap van Rennes, having sold his various companies in the Netherlands and seeking a peaceful, tax-friendly retirement in Belgium, acquired Château Genoels-Elderen in Riemst, Limburg. This colorful character once admitted to us that he was initially tempted to build a golf course on his vast estate, but the discovery of a former viticultural tradition on the property made his heart turn toward planting a vineyard. Today, the estate is run by his daughter Joyce and his son-in-law Stefan Kékkö, now joined by the third generation.
For a long time, it was Belgium’s largest wine estate, with 22 hectares in production (that was before the rise of major Hainaut estates such as Ruffus and Chant d’Eole). Genoels-Elderen continues to follow its own path, producing high-quality wines year after year.
Zilveren Parel
