Domaine Mont des Anges
On his LinkedIn profile, Vincent De Busscher describes himself as a “creator of new effervescence”. It's a nice turn of phrase. It must be said that the entire narrative of Domaine Mont des Anges, of which he is the co-founder, is based on effective storytelling. Starting with the name of the estate itself, inspired by the angels ‘armed with divine arrows’ who are said to have protected British soldiers during their retreat in August 1914 from the German forces. Their diaphanous wings now adorn the labels of the estate's various vintages.
With his partner (and companion), Laurianne Lejour, daughter of Champagne winegrowers, Vincent De Busscher is at the head of a 9.6-hectare vineyard, spread over several plots that distil their own identity (chalk or flint) into the estate's various vintages. Bubbles and nothing but bubbles, showcasing the three traditional Champagne grape varieties, as well as Voltis, an interspecific grape variety developed by INRA in France, which the Domaine Mont des Anges hopes will set it apart from the competition – which is quite fierce in Hainaut when it comes to sparkling wines.
