Château de Durette

Jean Joly from Liège (Wallonia) fell in love with the Beaujolais region. The story goes that he took his young wife to Saint-Amour for their honeymoon in 1964 and was carried away by this land, often unjustly disparaged. In 2007, he bought a vineyard in the village of Régnié-Durette, which he renamed Château de Durette. The originality of his plan is that in a sort of cooperative spirit, good friends acquired plots of vines of different Bordeaux vintages and signed tenant farming contracts with the Château de Durette, which thus has a vineyard covering 30 hectares. They include another native of Liège, Marc Theissen, who is in charge of the day-to-day management and marketing of the estate’s wines. When Jean Joly passed away in 2014, the vineyard remained within the family. It adopts a reasoned agriculture approach.

Morgon "Hommage"

This cuvée "Hommage" is a tribute to Jean Joly, founder of Château de Durette.

The soil of the PDO Morgon, the most widespread of the Beaujolais vintages, consists of decomposed granite schist. The Château de Durette plots cover one hectare, with 40 year-old vines whose yield is limited to 40 hl/ha.  It was vinified using the traditional method in cement tanks (vinification by plot, with 11 days of maceration and regular plunging). The wine is also matured in tanks.

   Ruby-coloured robe of medium intensity.

   Nose characterised by red stone fruits such as Morello cherries.

   Very silky in the mouth, with a delicate finish.

   Entrecôte steak à la Beaujolaise, game in pepper sauce.
