Domaine Mas Nuy
You don’t have to look far to find the origin of the name of the Mas Nuy Vineyard whose owner, Belgian winemaker Pierre Urbain, lives in the village of Masnuy-Saint-Jean, not far from Mons. Acquired gradually since 2005, its 6.5 hectares of vines are surrounded by over three hectares of forest and unspoilt countryside. Planted on the schistose soil of Faugères, they produce wines with a superb minerality. Pierre Urbain’s philosophy? "To make as little as possible so as not to disrupt the balance of the natural cycle."
La Catiéda
The minerality of the Faugères schist is superbly reflected in La Catiéda, Mas Nuy’s leading white cuvée.
The vinification process in brief: Manual harvesting in crates with selective sorting on the vine. Pressing without stemming. Cold settling. Matured on lees for four months, followed by three months in tanks (Grenache) or 600-litre tuns (Roussanne). Some of the Roussanne is matured in an old Yquem cask which, according to the winemaker, adds the hints of honey to La Catiéda.
Strong yellow robe. Fine brilliance.
Aromas of exotic and citrus fruits, with hints of honey.
Very fresh in the mouth, marked by the minerality of the schist.
Wild sea bass or pikeperch (with citrus or yuzu sauce, for example), poultry with fruit.
12 - 14°C.
Try a mini-vertical of La Catiéda – we still have a few 2012 left!
