Domaine des Hêtres
The “Domaine des Hêtres” is part of the Goffin family's farm, located in Rosoux-Crenwick, not far from Waremme (province of Liège). The estate takes its name from six majestic purple beech trees planted on the property more than a century ago. In addition to the traditional field crops of the Hesbaye region, the Ferme des Hêtres has diversified into arboriculture, then into the cultivation of (green) asparagus and, finally, into wine under the impetus of the third generation, embodied by Nicolas and Alexandre. We find here a similar dynamic to that which gave birth to the Domaine du Ry d'Argent (Bovesse) or the Domaine du Chapitre (Bonlez). The wine estate is almost entirely planted with classic grape varieties over an area of almost 10 hectares, to which can be added 40 ares of PIWI varieties - a first trial carried out by Jules-André Goffin (the father) in the early 2000s. From this plot of so-called resistant varieties, the Domaine des Hêtres produces a very original white wine in the Belgian production spectrum, called Helios.
Helios
Helios is not only the Sun God of Greek mythology, it is also a resistant grape variety resulting from Merzling X (Seyve-Villard 12-481 X Müller-Thurgau). It is not widely planted in Belgium (there are also 2,000 vines at the Domaine du Chenoy, planted by Philippe Grafé in 2003) and this is a pity, because it certainly makes it possible to stand out.
Pale yellow.
A rather discreet nose, with aromas of white flowers.
Tense, with a nice minerality.
Perfect with seafood.
