Renaud Manguette & Père
In the Manguette family, I first ask for the son (Renaud), and only then for the father (Daniel). It was in response to his son’s passion that Daniel Manguette, a landscape gardening entrepreneur, turned his life upside down and had a winery built in 2024 in an annex of the family home. Trained in the Jura and later honing his skills with pioneering winemakers in France (including Fabien Jouve) and abroad, Renaud works according to the principles of urban wineries — sourcing grapes from biodynamic growers, with vinification and ageing carried out in-house. The difference is that he is not based in a city, but in the countryside, in the village of La Gleize in the province of Liège. With a production of around 5,000 bottles per year, Renaud describes his wines as “natural, yet clean and precise” — which is why, after a vinification without additives, he adds only a very small amount of sulphites at bottling.
Orange dans l'air
This wine should be described as semi-orange because although the Vermentino (Rolle) undergoes 15 days of maceration, the Marsanne and Clairette grapes that complete the blend are pressed immediately after harvesting. This is why the colour of this cuvée is more straw-coloured than orange. Nevertheless, there is a nice tannic structure beneath the fruitiness.
