Domaine Vins des Cinq
They are not three, like Alexandre Dumas’ heroes, but five: four brothers and a sister, each with very different professional backgrounds, yet united by a common goal — to make wine in their stronghold of Couthuin, in the province of Liège. You can sense they’re ready to fight to earn — and even claim a prime — place in the Belgian wine scene. And they’ve equipped themselves for success: hiring a French oenologist, building a gravity-fed winery, and cultivating 8 hectares of vines (with a possible extension of 2 ha) under organic farming. The 100 hectares of forest inherited from their parents are said to have been enough to convince the banks to finance this ambitious project.
In addition to the three classic Champagne grape varieties, the Grégoire family planted Pinot Gris and Müller-Thurgau, with the idea of producing both sparkling and still wines in equal measure. From the very first vintage, Domaine Vins des Cinq (or XXV for short) made an impressive debut, with high-quality cuvées.
