Château Famaey
The estate was acquired in 2000 by two Flemish businessmen, Luc Luyckx and Marc Van Antwerpen, both of whom love Cahors wines, and was renamed Château Famaey. For the record, Famaey is the maiden name of Luc's wife, the driving force behind the international recognition of the estate. Since 2007, Maarten Luyckx, Luc's son, has been in charge of the vinification and development of this family business.
Château Famaey has 40 hectares of vines spread over different terraces in the Lot Valley, in the heart of the Cahors appellation. On this exceptional terroir of clay and gravel, Maarten makes strict plot selections for his numerous cuvées. The wines of Château Famaey are regularly awarded high marks in the specialist press.
Cuvée Prestige
"A harmonious cuvée thanks to the quality of the wood-varietal blend. The complex nose of blackberry and blackcurrant, enhanced by coconut and toasted notes, is matched by a powerful palate built on elegant tannins. The fresh finish leaves a pleasant sensation", comments the Guide Hachette des Vins 2022, which awarded it one star.
Produced at a rate of 30,000 bottles, the 2018 Prestige was vinified in the traditional way in concrete tanks, with a 21-day vatting period. It was then aged for 18 months in used oak barrels (2nd and 3rd wine) from the Allier.
Intense garnet colour.
Nose dominated by black fruits, with smoky notes and leather.
Full and generous on the palate, typical of Cahors.
A simply roasted duck with its pan of chanterelles. A nice lamb chop.
