Château Petit Bocq
Established by a Belgian doctor, Gaëtan Lagneaux, in 1993 from just under one hectare of vines, the estate now covers 19 hectares scattered among 90 plots on land on the different soils of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. All the plots are vinified separately and then blended – which, says the Guide Hachette, guarantees "remarkable consistency". Despite the death of Gaétan Lagneaux in 2012, the Château Petit Bocq has remained in the hands of the family.
Château Petit Bocq
The estate produces around 110,000 bottles of a single wine: our absolute favourite in the appellation!
Manual harvesting. Traditional vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks and in casks, with cold pre-fermentation maceration. Aged for 16 months in casks (40% new). Bottled without filtration.
Dense dark red robe.
Bouquet dominated by aromas of toasted bread, coffee and chocolate, coupled with small black fruits.
Velvety in the mouth, slightly woody. Dense tannins suggesting very good potential for keeping. Fresh, long finish.
A festive meal... or not. A match for a truffled sauce.
