Château La Marzelle

The Château La Marzelle, St Emilion Grand Cru Classé, was purchased in 1998 by Jean-Jacques and Jacqueline Sioen, a West Flanders manufacturing couple who developed and succeeded in maintaining a flourishing textile group in Belgium. The Sioens extended the vineyard, modernised the cellars and hired first-class professionals to improve the quality of the La Marzelle wines. They now rank among the very best of the appellation. After the death of Jean-Jacques Sioen, then of his wife, the estate remained in the hands of the family.

Prieuré La Marzelle

The Château La Marzelle covers 17 hectares on the Haute Terrasse de Saint-Emilion, once the bed of the Isle, a river that has its source in the Massif Central and that has, over time, deposited sand (on clay in some places), a gravel-sand mixture and shingle here. Pétrus, Cheval Blanc, Figeac and La Marzelle lie from north to south on this unique strip of land.

The second wine produced here is vinified the traditional way, with cold pre-fermentation maceration, long fermentation on skins and malolactic fermentation in casks. The maturing in casks (new or one wine) takes 18 months.

Nose dominated by black fruits, with a hint of liquorice.

Fruity in the attack phase, supple and lively in the mouth.
