Supple - Fruity
You have to like fuchsia, violet and crushed strawberries to enter the monochromatic world of Château Castigno. This 32-hectare estate at the heart of the Saint-Chinian appellation, in Languedoc, is owned by a couple from West Flanders, Marc Verstraete and Tine Claeys, who bought it in 2007. They aimed very high from the outset: the estate was converted to organic methods and the star consultants Michel Tardieu and Philippe Cambie - who usually work in the Côtes-du-Rhône - provide their support during the vinification process. Maintaining their momentum, Marc and Tine have rehabilitated several houses in the village of Assignan to provide a variety of places to live, eat and relax.
The Monts de la Grage PGI is delimited by six communes, including Saint-Chinian. Its name comes from "grageas", the masses of fallen shale scattered across the soil on the side of the massifs. The Terra Casta from Château Castigno is representative of the generous wines in this appellation.
The Carignan vines, the majority variety in the blend, are over 50 years old, while the Syrah vines are just over 30 years old. The wine is matured in stainless steel tanks.
