Heiress of a maritime transport empire, Virginie Saverys has been the owner of the Avignonesi vineyard in Tuscany since 2009, two years after she acquired 30% of the capital as an investment. She would be “out of scope” for Popsss had she not chosen to devote herself personally to the development of Avignonesi. And so this new chapter in the family history is being written in the appellation regions of Montepulciano and Cortona. Avignonesi is currently the largest winemaking property in Italy to have opted in favour of biodynamics.
This cuvée is a perfect symbol of the IGT Toscana appellation, which enabled the winemakers of Tuscany to free themselves from the very stringent, traditional framework of the DOC/DOCG, the quality assurance labels used for Italian food. This wine was matured in new French casks for 16 months for the Cabernet and in two- or three-wine casks for the Sangiovese.
Shimmering ruby-red robe.
Aromas of ripe red fruits, enhanced by hints of rosemary, thyme and undergrowth.
Very powerful in the mouth, but with silky tannins.
Guinea-fowl with spices or wild duck with ceps.
